Best Apps to Save Places from TikTok and Instagram (2026)

The problem all of these solve is the same. You save travel videos because a place looked incredible. The saves folder fills up. You go on the trip and never open it, because a folder of videos cannot tell you what is a five minute walk from where you are standing.
The apps differ on two things that actually matter: how the place gets out of the video, and what happens to it after that. Almost every other difference is decoration.

1. Plotline
The closest thing to a direct competitor for us, and a genuinely good app. Share a post from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, a Google Maps link or a travel blog and Plotline pulls out the location, photos and details.
The thing Plotline does better than most is keeping the creator's story attached to the pin. It saves the original recommendation and a link back to the source video, so six months later you remember that the point was the vermouth on a Tuesday, not just that a bar existed.
At 495 ratings and a 4.9 average it has the longest real track record among the newer apps in this category. iPhone only for now, with an Android waitlist open.
Pick it if you mostly want a personal map with the context behind each pin.

2. Dream Trip (ours)

The capture works the same way as the others: share a TikTok or Reel from the share sheet, the place gets extracted and pinned with a link back to the video. Where we spend our effort is the step after. 3. Stasht
Stasht is the odd one out here in a useful way: it is not a travel app. It saves TikToks, Reels, YouTube videos, Pinterest pins, posts from X, plain links and screenshots, and it covers recipes, events and gift ideas alongside travel. It also runs a public map of what other people are saving nearby.
If your saving problem is genuinely broad, a travel-only tool will annoy you and Stasht will not. If your problem is specifically trips, a travel-only tool goes deeper.
Pick it if your saves folder is a mess across every category, not just travel.
4. Mapstr
The veteran. Over 2,500 ratings and years of track record, built around your own city rather than a trip: save a spot, tag it, colour-code it, filter it later, and see what friends and people you follow have saved. Shared maps open as a link in any browser with no install. It is on Android, which several apps here are not.
Mapstr is built primarily around tapping to save a place you already know, rather than extracting one from a video. That is a real difference if most of your ideas arrive as Reels.
Pick it if you want a permanent personal map of where you live, or you need Android.
5. Wanderlog
The heavyweight, and it is not close on breadth. Itineraries, budgets, flight and hotel reservations, road trip routing with unlimited stops, collaboration, a web app, Android, and nearly 35,000 App Store ratings at 4.9.
It is a trip planner you add places to rather than a capture tool that turns videos into pins. If you want one app for the entire trip including the booking admin, this is the answer and we would say so.
Pick it if you want everything in one place and someone in your group is not on iPhone.
6. Google Maps lists
The default, and for a lot of people the correct answer. Free, already installed, synced everywhere, best-in-class place data and navigation, shareable with anyone.
It has exactly one gap, and it is the gap this whole category exists to fill: you cannot share a TikTok into Google Maps. You have to watch the video, work out the name of the place, guess the spelling, search, pick the right result and save it. For five places that is fine. For fifty it never happens.
Pick it if you save a handful of places a year and it is working.

Things worth knowing before you switch
None of these can bulk import your saves folder. Neither TikTok nor Instagram exposes your saved posts to other apps, so every app here works one share at a time. Anyone claiming otherwise is worth a second look. The practical approach is to do the city you are travelling to next rather than trying to process four hundred saves in a sitting.
Extraction is not perfect anywhere. Creators often do not tag locations, and a video that only says the name out loud is a harder problem than one with a caption. Every app in this category gets some of these wrong.
Ratings count is not quality. The most-rated app here is the broadest one, not the most focused. A new listing with few ratings can be a better fit and a worse bet at the same time, and both of those things are true of ours.
The honest summary
If you want the safest choice with the longest track record, Wanderlog. If you want a personal map with creator context, Plotline. If your saving problem goes far beyond travel, Stasht. If you want your saved places turned into a day-by-day plan you can share with friends, that is the thing we built Dream Trip to do.
